Community Integration Programs
The Community Integration Program was designed to help consumers learn about and use community resources. The goal of this program is to help each individual become an active and valued member of the community. The program features a ratio of two instructors to five consumers, enabling individualized supports. Each Community Integration team is based in an adult training center so that the consumers receive the benefit of the supportive center environment while spending at least half of their program time in the community. The consumers involved in this program have spent time enjoying and learning about their communitites by using community resources such as the library, YMCA, local museums and other points of interest. They have expanded their own skills and interests by taking part in community activites and classes offered through community colleges. While enjoying these opportunities, the Community Integration program also seeks to give back to the community and the consumers are actively involved in volunteer activities with organizations including Meals on Wheels, The Food Bank, Girl Scouts, The Animal Welfare Association, community hospice care, The Discovery Museum and Goodwill Industries.
