February Highlights
February may have brought cold temperatures, but that certainly didn’t slow us down at The Arc of Camden County Adult Training Services (ATS)! Our consumers embraced the month with energy, creativity, and connection—coming together to learn, celebrate, and make meaningful memories.
Honoring Black History Month
In observance of Black History Month, our consumers participated in educational discussions and activities that highlighted the achievements, resilience, and cultural contributions of African Americans throughout history.
A highlight of the month was our field trip to Mt. Gilead in Buckingham, Pennsylvania. Mt. Gilead African Methodist Episcopal Church is a historic site with deep roots in the fight for freedom. Founded in the early 1800s, the church served as a safe haven and critical stop along the Underground Railroad. Courageous individuals seeking freedom were sheltered and guided through this network of secret routes and safe houses, supported by abolitionists and faith communities who risked their own safety to help others escape slavery.
Visiting this powerful landmark allowed our consumers to reflect on the bravery, faith, and determination of those who fought for justice and equality. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect history with lived experience and deepen our understanding of the importance of community and advocacy.
Valentine’s Day Celebrations
Love and friendship were in the air at our Valentine’s Day parties! Our centers were filled with music, laughter, and plenty of dancing. Consumers enjoyed festive snacks, created heartfelt crafts, and celebrated the joy of friendship together. From colorful decorations to handmade cards, it was a wonderful reminder of the importance of connection and kindness.
Let the Good Times Roll – Mardi Gras!
We brought the spirit of New Orleans to ATS with lively Mardi Gras celebrations. Consumers created vibrant masks and bead crafts, learned about the traditions behind Mardi Gras, and enjoyed themed treats and music. The festivities were full of color, creativity, and cultural appreciation.
Celebrating the Little Things
February also gave us fun opportunities to recognize special national days. For National Umbrella Day, consumers participated in themed crafts and activities that brightened even the chilliest winter day. National Pizza Day was another favorite—complete with pizza-themed activities and, of course, enjoying slices together!
Cold Weather, Warm Hearts
While winter weather kept temperatures low, it never dampened our spirits. February was filled with laughter, learning, creativity, and community. Whether we were honoring history, celebrating holidays, or simply gathering together, our ATS consumers demonstrated that connection and joy are always in season.
We are proud of the enthusiasm and participation shown by our consumers and look forward to many more engaging experiences in the months ahead!
