Inclusion Is in the Details

The Sherwood residential team decided to host a Luau-themed BBQ—but they didn’t stop at simply planning a party. They invited other programs to join, created activities, and made sure there was something for everyone, from snow cones and cotton candy to great food and music.

But it was the little details that made the biggest impact.

They provided hula skirts that accommodated everyone, offered sugar-free and easily pureed drink options, prepared food for different dietary needs, and even had extra sunscreen available for anyone who had forgotten theirs.

That is what inclusion looks like. It’s not just inviting someone to the party—it’s thinking ahead about what they might need to truly participate and feel like they belong.

The Arc was created by families who wanted a better life for their children. We are honored to carry that mission forward by creating more than programs—we’re creating a family where we look out for one another, take care of each other, and make sure everyone has a place at the table.
