Three Little Birds Cafe: Creating Opportunity Through Food, Community, and Inclusion
At The Arc of Camden County, our mission has always been clear: to provide quality, individualized services to people with disabilities that promote growth, independence, and the pursuit of meaningful life goals. Every program we create is designed with that purpose in mind — helping individuals build confidence, develop valuable skills, and discover new pathways toward independence and employment.
That mission is what inspired the growth of Three Little Birds Cafe.
What began as a fundraising food truck focused on raising awareness about our organization, bringing people together through fresh food and community engagement, has expanded into something even more meaningful: a hands-on training environment located within the Kitchen of our Occupational Training Center. Through this expansion, Three Little Birds Cafe now serves as an important part of our food service training program, creating real-world opportunities for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment who are interested in pursuing careers in the food service industry.
Participants in our agency-based program work alongside highly trained supervisors in a supportive, encouraging environment where they can build practical job skills and gain valuable experience in a professional kitchen setting. Individuals receive training in areas such as:
Kitchen equipment operation
Food sanitation practices
Workplace safety
Food preparation and storage
Customer service through our in-house cafeteria operations
These experiences do more than teach technical skills — they help participants develop confidence, communication, teamwork, and independence that can carry into future employment opportunities and everyday life.
The expansion of Three Little Birds Cafe reflects our continued commitment to creating innovative programs that meet individuals where they are while helping them work toward their personal and professional goals. By combining food service training with hands-on experience in a real working environment, participants are able to explore new career paths and build a foundation for long-term success.
